The Initiative for Workers Solidarity in Asia Pacific

The Initiatives for Workers Solidarity in Asia Pacific is an initiative of the Asia Pacific Mission for Migrants (APMM), based in Hong Kong, to promote unity of working people through advocacy, labor campaigns, research, cooperation and network building.

It is started by the APMM in the context of the rapidly deteriorating situation of all workers in the Asia Pacific due to the heightened implementation of neoliberal policies that primarily serve capital. Under this condition, the divide among workers – host and im/migrants, formal and informal, unionised and non-unionised – is exaggerated and utilized to blur the fact that all working people are impacted by the same bias that favors capital and businesses.

The IWSAP was initiated to support and further develop activities and programs that build unity and promote solidarity of all workers for a common front in the defense of worker’s rights and promotion of worker’s wellbeing.

It will be established as an NGO a regional civil society organization that will promote, facilitate and strengthen solidarity of all workers in the region across sectors, gender, industry and immigration status. It bridges communication, coordination and cooperation of different types of workers organisations to amplify and advance worker’s struggles for labor rights and people’s development.
